A laser interferometer measures displacement of an object. Current systems with Gaussian beams can only measure displacement over one axis. To measure 6 degrees of freedom (DoF) multiple interferometers are needed, resulting in a complex system.
Because of the phase relationship between the rings of the beam, Aircision is able to capture more data from a single beam. On top of the displacement measured by standard interferometer, we can measure if an object is pitching and yawing with the same single beam.
This unique feature allows for a less complex system.
